Art Exhibit: Pastels by Ann O'Hara

November 9 through December 31
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily

About the exhibit:

The works in this show represent many moments that the artist has encountered and wanted to capture.  A child picking berries, a field of wildflowers, sunrises and sunsets, the ocean, the prairie. The show is a culmination of her recent experiences.

About the artist

After practicing law for 30 years, O'Hara returned to her life-long dream, that of being a full-time artist. From her first stroke of solid pigment pastel on textured paper in 2009, she was hooked.  The medium of soft pastels is totally appealing to her as an artist.  O'Hara believes spontaneity, bold, vibrant color, and the options of smooth or textured strokes, blending or layering are all good things. Pastels are very forgiving….important in painting and in life.  The act of painting for her is completing an idea that, once planted in her head, wanders around in there until the pastels beckon. Once begun, a pastel painting may take anywhere from hours to months before it is finished. Her subjects are not limited in any way other than that every pastel reflects a moment that she wants to capture and share.

Ann O'Hara's home is in Lincoln, but she and her husband spend summers in Maine.  Her work is shown at Connect Gallery in Omaha and she is a member of the Burkholder Project in Lincoln, as well as the MidAmerican Pastel Society and the Pastel Society of Maine.
