Railroad Days

July 15 & 16, 2017 | 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Presented by Union Pacific Railroad

For complete event details, visit:

Explore this region's rich railroad heritage at Railroad Days 2017! This festival includes admission into six of the area's best attractions for families, including: Lauritzen Gardens, The Durham Museum, the Union Pacific Railroad Museum, the RailsWest Railroad Museum, and the Historic General Dodge House.

A $15 family pass included admission to and transportation between all five locations. A family pass includes two adults and their dependent children. A $5 pass is also available for one additional adult with the purchase of a family pass. Participating venues are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the festival.

In addition to their regular exhibits and offerings, attractions will offer activities and educational opportunities in support of this year’s theme, which is to be announced.

Railroad Days is made possible thanks to the generous support of Union Pacific Railroad. Transportation is provided by the Iowa West Foundation. Media support provided by KETV. Printing support provided by Elman & Co.

At Lauritzen Gardens:

Visit the model railroad garden to discover multiple bridge-chugging,tunnel-zooming G-scale train lines winding through replicas of Omaha’s favorite landmarks. Look closely - all bridges, trestles and buildings are made of natural bark, twigs, acorns and seeds. Amazing! Stop by the control shed to meet our friendly engineers.

Get up close and personal with two of the greatest locomotives to ever power Union Pacific Railroad at Kenefick Park. Stand in awe at Centennial No. 6900, one of the most powerful diesel-electric locomotives ever built, and Big Boy No. 4023, one of the world’s largest steam locomotives.

Children can enjoy complimentary rides on a classic 1949 King Amusement Company On-Track Train as it chugs across the festival garden patio.

The café will be open each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Highlights at other participating locations:

  • Beautiful architecture blends with memories of a time gone by at The Durham Museum. Making its home in one of Omaha's most unique treasures, Union Station, The Durham Museum offers a fascinating look at the history of the region and offers a broad-range of traveling exhibits covering subjects ranging from history and culture, to science, industry and more through its affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution and strong ties with the Library of Congress, National Archives and the Field Museum.
  • Explore the historic mansion of "the greatest railroad builder of all time" at the Historic General Dodge House and see four different models of transportation in the Carriage House.
  • Take a ride down memory lane at RailsWest Railroad Museum. See displays and artifacts from the numerous rail lines that passed through Council Bluffs, as well as an extensive H.O. scale model train layout.
