Expressions in Art Workshops


Infusing the beauty and uniqueness of the garden with various artistic methods such as painting and photography, these fun and fulfilling workshops are designed for both the beginner and the experienced artist. Registration information is listed at the bottom of the page.
 

  

CRAFTY CREATIONS 

 

Create a different and colorful garden-themed craft in this series of workshops geared towards beginners and intermediates. Each workshop will be led by a friendly and talented instructor from "The Potting Shed." Crafts focused on painting may involve pre-drawn designs.

PAINTING 

 

Watercolor in the Garden with Joslyn Art Museum 

Adult workshop 

Stop and paint the roses in this class that will teach the watercolor basics. Through instruction from Cody Wheelock, participants will combine practice in the studio and plein air experiences within the picturesque settings of Lauritzen Gardens. All classes meet at Lauritzen Gardens. A supply list will be provided. 

Four sessions: September 18 and 25, October 2 and 9; 6 to 8 p.m.

Photography Level 1  

Photography workshop  

This two-hour class is for beginner and intermediate amateur photographers. So you have this beautiful new camera and you know how to turn it on. Now what? Advance beyond using the automatic settings on your digital SLR camera to learn why and when to use the variations of aperture, shutter speed and lighting. By the end of the two hours, participants will understand in simple terms, the hows and whys of operating their camera. Instructor: Will Fields

Photography Level 2 

Photography workshop  

This workshop is for upper level beginner to intermediate photographers. The point of this two-hour field class is not to replicate a few beautiful images, but rather to learn techniques to transform photography. Participants will gain an understanding of what makes a great photo, learn the techniques required, and pick up some tips and tricks that professional photographers use. The instructor will provide clear instruction, guidance, and feedback throughout four field exercises, as participants begin to develop their own style within photography. Better Photos with Your Phone 

Photography workshop  

As the quality and sophistication of smart phones improves, more and more people are relying almost exclusively on their phone as their primary camera. Smart phone cameras and their apps are great, but with a stronger understanding of the basics of photography, your phone pics can become much better. If you love the camera in your phone but want even better results, this is the class for you. With tips and tricks, we'll have you shooting like a pro. Instructor: Will Fields

Evening/Nighttime Photography 

Photography workshop  

Come learn and expand your knowledge of evening/nighttime photography in the beautiful urban oasis that is Lauritzen Gardens. This after hours exploration will be led and coached by instructor Will Fields. Completion of Photography Level 2 or review of existing work is required. Participants must bring their own camera.

About the instructor: Will Fields is a commercial photographer and teacher who was based in Chicago for most of his 30 year career. His use of wit, humor and incorporation of the platonic question make him a natural, effective and popular teacher. Will now lives in Omaha, Nebraska, but works and teaches around the country. A partial list of Will's commercial clients include: Sears (catalog and corporate), Cadillac, Haworth, GE, Motorola, Allstate, Anheuser-Busch, Coldwell Banker and many others.  



Registration and Cancellation Information 

Click here to register online. Programs fill quickly and classes are subject to minimum and maximum enrollment. Payment must be processed for a roster slot to be held. Registration must be completed at least one week in advance of the class. Walk-ins are discouraged and spots/supplies are not always guaranteed to be available. After Registration 
Participants should dress accordingly for all outdoor programs. No rain or snow dates are planned. It is recommended that registrants arrive 15 minutes before the start of the program, doors or gates may be locked once a registrant is more than 15 minutes late. Upon arrival at the garden, participants should check in at the admission desk. Program registration includes admission to the garden for the entire day of the program. All supplies are included for each program, unless otherwise indicated.
   

   

Refunds and Cancellations 

 

         If a registration for a program must be canceled, registration fees will be refunded if notice is received at least one week before the program.  

         Refunds/credits will not be provided for cancellations within one week of the start of the program or for participants that are late to a program.  

         Programs may be canceled due to insufficient enrollment. If a program is canceled, participants will be contacted by phone or email as early as possible. A full refund will be given in the event that Lauritzen Gardens cancels a program.  

         Programs will run as scheduled, regardless of weather, unless participants are contacted by Lauritzen Gardens staff by phone or email. In case of severe weather, participants should call (402) 346-4002, ext. 201 (ext. 250 on the weekend) to check the status of the program.
